The Broward Deputy Sheriff’s Association released a statement on Saturday criticizing Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony’s review of a fatal domestic violence case in Tamarac.
Mary Gingles had reported her estranged husband’s threats to Broward County Sheriff’s Office deputies before he violated a restraining order to kill her and two others, records show.
The BSO professional standards committee recommended eight terminations on Friday, and Tony added two more to the list.
“These excessive punishments demonstrate an overreaction by the Sheriff,” a union representative wrote in the statement, which also condemned a “biased disciplinary process and the scapegoating of our members in the pursuit of public relations goals.”
Nathan Gingles was awaiting trial for fatally shooting his 34-year-old estranged wife; her 64-year-old father, David Ponzer; and her 36-year-old neighbor, Andrew Ferrin, on Feb. 16.
Nathan Gingles, 43, a U.S. military veteran, was also accused of kidnapping their 4-year-old daughter, Seraphine, who detectives believe witnessed the carnage, records show. The girl survived without physical injury.
BSO released a statement saying the internal affairs’ investigation remained pending on Saturday.
