PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. — A loving dog named Christy is still waiting for her forever home after spending nearly two years with Miami-Dade Animal Services — far longer than most shelter dogs.
“Christy’s a little nervous right now, but she’s very, very sweet,” said MDAS’ Gabriela Dominguez during her appearing on Local 10’s Adopt a Pet segment Thursday. “She is around 7 to 8 years old.”
Described as smart and affectionate, Christy knows basic commands like “sit” and “give paw,” and shelter staff recently discovered she’s also great with kids — making her a strong candidate for families.
“The sad thing about Christy is that she’s been with us for almost two years, and that’s just way too long for a dog to be in our shelter, especially such a good girl like her,” Dominguez said.
There are a few considerations for potential adopters. Christy doesn’t get along with cats, and would do best in a home without them.
She also gets excited around other dogs, so staff recommend proper introductions to ensure safe and smooth socialization.
“We don’t know why she’s been there for so long,” Dominguez added. “It is time for Christy to find a forever home.”
Dominguez also highlighted two other long-term shelter residents — Bear, a large dog who has been at the shelter for more than 500 days, and Cookie, an orange tabby cat with distinctive lynx-like ear tufts.
“Another big boy full of love to give that just needs a forever home,” Dominguez said of Bear. Cookie, she added, is “very sweet, very curious, typical orange tabby cat, very friendly.”
All three animals are available for adoption through Miami-Dade County Animal Services.
