MIAMI — The Humane Society of Broward County is encouraging families to consider adoption as dozens of puppies, adult dogs and cats wait for new homes.
During a visit to Local 10’s studio Saturday, two 10-week-old puppies — Lorelei and her sleepy brother Genero — were the stars of the weekly “Adopt a Pet” segment. Both are part of a larger litter currently at the shelter.
HSBC’s Cherie Wachter said the mixed-breed puppies — likely a combination of shepherd, Labrador, and retriever — will grow to be large dogs.
“They’re 10 weeks old and… they got a lot of growing to do,” she said.
The shelter currently has close to 80 dogs and many cats available for adoption, including Rosita, an adult dog who has been at the shelter for two months.
“She loves to play in the water. She’s just a super sweet dog,” Wachter said.
Families with young children are encouraged to adopt — but with a reminder:
“It’s important to remind your children to keep their toys off the ground because anything with small parts like Legos can easily be eaten by puppies,” Wachter added.
The shelter also celebrated a recent success story. “Peanut was adopted,” Wachter shared.
Adoption kennels at the Humane Society of Broward County open daily at 11 a.m. For more information or to view adoptable animals, visit humanebroward.com.
