HIALEAH, Fla. — Three years after a PlayStation 5 sale turned into an armed robbery in a Hialeah parking lot, police have arrested a 27-year man who they they say pulled a gun on the seller and fled with the console.

Authorities said Jeffrey Adrian Joseph is accused of robbing a man at gunpoint during a planned meetup for a PS5 sale arranged through the OfferUp app.

They said they robbery occurred around 7:50 p.m. on June 30, 2022, in the parking lot of an apartment complex near the 200 block of West 77th Street in Hialeah.

According to police, a 23-year-old man had listed the gaming console for $650.

They said he was contacted through the app by a user named “Josh,” later identified as Joseph, who arranged to meet him at the apartment complex to complete the transaction.

When the victim arrived with the PlayStation 5 in a clear plastic bin, deputies said Joseph got out of a black Honda Accord driven by an unknown accomplice.

During the exchange, Joseph reportedly told the victim, “I got your $650 right here,” then pulled out a black semi-automatic gun and demanded the console, investigators said.

Fearing for his life, the victim dropped the bin and ran while calling 911. Police said Joseph fled the scene in the getaway vehicle, heading northbound on West Second Court.

Detectives said surveillance video from the complex captured the suspect arriving at the scene wearing dark clothing and a red hat — matching the victim’s description. They said video footage also showed the driver and Joseph covering the car’s license plate before the robbery.

Following a statement from the victim and a search warrant served on Joseph’s OfferUp account, detectives said they linked the account to a phone number registered to Joseph.

They said the victim later identified Joseph in a photo lineup presented by Hialeah police.

Jail records show Joseph is facing one count of armed robbery with a firearm or deadly weapon.

As of Wednesday, he is being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
