SUNNY ISLES BEACH, Fla. — First responders rushed to the scene of a fire burning in Sunny Isles Beach on Monday.
It was located at the Newport Beachside Hotel and Resort located on Collins Avenue and Northeast 163rd Street.
Video footage captured a line of fire burning up along the north side of the building, with orange flames sending billowing smoke into the air.
According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, an external garbage chute caught fire, but crews were going floor-by-floor to make sure the flames did not spread.
“Because of the upper floors involved, it took several minutes,” said Miami Dade Fire Rescue Operations Division Chief Michael Eng. “Most of the fire was knocked down on the exterior, but there was some concerns of spread to the inside of the building as well.”
From the outside, there was visible fire damage to the side of the building and several rooms.
The hotel was evacuated as crews battled the blaze, which was fully extinguished shortly before 5 p.m.
Officials said there were no injuries reported as a result of the fire.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
