MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A grass fire was burning on Friday afternoon near Southwest 157 Avenue and 10 Street in Miami-Dade County, near the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians territory.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue started deploying units shortly before 3:35 p.m., and by 5:25 p.m., there were 11 units, including aerial support, records show.
M-DFR was also assisting the Florida Forest Service rangers with a firefighting apparatus that specializes in the transport of water.
Brandon Orr, a Local 10 News Weather Authority meteorologist, reported that the current dry conditions increase the risk of brush fires.
Firefighters asked residents who are vulnerable to respiratory issues and who are in areas near grass fires to avoid being outdoors.
The smoke from grass fires can irritate the eyes, nose, and throat, and cause coughing, wheezing, and even shortness of breath.
Local 10 News Assignment Editor Carson Merlo contributed to this report.
