Time to Smile: Young woman splits time between high school and technical school to learn aviation

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A teenager is soaring to great heights in South Florida.

Brianna Jara is a student at Young Women’s Preparatory Academy in Miami-Dade County.

She is now the first student from her all-girls school to also be enrolled at George T. Baker Aviation Technical College.

Jara splits her time between both schools, hitting the books and getting hands-on training to help her dreams take off.

“I see myself being a naval fighter pilot. This is a steppingstone for me. I feel like if you’re going to fly something, you have to know what you’re flying. If you’re flying something, you have to know it’s inner workings. Also, how can I tell someone how to fly a plane when I myself don’t really know how to repair one?” said Jara.

Jara says her love for all things aviation started with her grandfather, who first noticed her fascination during a Blue Angels Air Show when she was a child.
