BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — A brush fire that has damaged at least 19,200 acres continued to burn on Thursday afternoon in the Florida Everglades, just west of Broward County.
The National Weather Service issued an air quality alert on Wednesday night and warned on Thursday that those who “are sensitive to particle pollution” will need to avoid being outdoors.
The smoke was impacting air quality in Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach counties. There was also afternoon rain and thunderstorms in the area of the brush fire.
Florida Forest Service rangers responded, and Broward County Sheriff’s Office firefighters assisted.
