SOUTH MIAMI, Fla. — A 52-year-old Hallandale Beach woman was arrested Thursday after police say she left her young son unattended and without food at a South Miami hotel.
South Miami police said officers were dispatched around 7:45 a.m. to the Rodeway Inn at 5959 SW 71st St. after a boy, whose age was not disclosed in an arrest report, was found alone outside the hotel.
The boy told police that Louisa Kherkhach, his mother, had left him there while she went to work and that he had not eaten and had not received his medication for approximately two months, the report stated.
Police said the boy’s father was not at the hotel and he was not aware that his son had been dropped off.
Authorities also contacted the Department of Children and Families, which documented the incident after officers found the boy disheveled.
Jail records show Kherkhach was taken into custody at 11 p.m. Thursday and faces one count of child neglect without great bodily harm.
As of Friday, she was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where her bond was listed as “to be set.”
