Woman accused of stabbing victim with glass bottle in chest in El Portal

EL PORTAL, Fla. — A woman has been arrested weeks after deputies say she stabbed another woman with a glass bottle during an argument at a home in El Portal.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as 36-year-old Kendra Ashley McKinney in an arrest report obtained by Local 10 News on Wednesday.

According to the report, deputies were called to a home near the 8000 block of Northwest Miami Court around 7:50 a.m. on July 29 after a woman was found with a stab wound to her upper chest.

Investigators said McKinney and the victim were sitting outside with others when an argument broke out.

The report states that McKinney, who is listed as homeless in her arrest report, threatened to kill the woman, shattered a glass bottle and stabbed her in the chest with it before fleeing the scene.

Deputies said the victim was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center for treatment.

A witness at the scene identified McKinney as the attacker, the report stated.

Authorities said McKinney was taken into custody at Larkin Community Hospital South Miami on Tuesday and was then transported to MDSO’s Kendall district office for questioning.

They said she denied the allegations after being read her Miranda rights.

Jail records show McKinney is facing one count of first-degree attempted murder.

As of Wednesday, she was being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

Records also show she was previously arrested on charges of trespassing in an unoccupied structure, illegally camping in Miami Beach, and resisting an officer without violence in an unrelated case.

A motive for the stabbing remains unclear at this time.
