CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. — A Coral Springs man was arrested on a domestic violence charge after his wife was found dead in a canal Monday night, police confirmed.
Coral Springs police said at 8:51 p.m., Jeffrey Ernest Evans, 43, called 911 and told dispatchers his wife was having a “mental break” and needed police assistance.
Six minutes later, another caller reported hearing a woman scream, “My husband is trying to kill me,” according to the report.
Upon arrival, police said they found the body of Jessica Lloyd floating face down in a canal near the 9900 block of Northwest 15th Court. They said she was pronounced dead at 10:05 p.m.
Investigators later learned that Evans and Lloyd had been experiencing marital issues.
During the death investigation, detectives said they determined that a domestic violence incident had occurred earlier in the day between Evans and his wife.
Jail records show Evans is facing one count of domestic violence with simple battery.
Detectives said he agreed to speak with investigators in a recorded interview after being read his Miranda rights, however, his statement was redacted in the publicly released report.
Authorities said Lloyd’s death remains under investigation, and police have not yet said whether additional charges will be filed.
Evans’ bond information wasn’t immediately available.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Detective J. Girard at JGirard@coralsprings.gov.
