MIAMI — A 51-year-old man in Miami’s Brickell neighborhood faced 48 felony charges on Thursday after police officers arrested him for regularly throwing glass beer bottles from a 41st-floor balcony, records show.
Miami Police Department officers arrested Ivan Cadierno, a Club at Brickell Bay tenant, on Wednesday after he allegedly threw so many bottles that he prompted investigations by both the building’s management company and a detective, records show.
“The bottles could have easily struck pedestrians, residents, or vehicles below, causing serious bodily injury or death,” a detective wrote, according to the arrest report in Cadierno’s case.
Miami-Dade prosecutors filed a felony case against Cadierno, who was born in Spain, on Thursday. He faced 24 counts of shooting or throwing a deadly missile and 24 counts of criminal mischief of $1,000 or more.
The building’s management company blamed Cadierno for about $140,000 in property damage and other expenses, including the purchase and installation of a net and surveillance cameras before they could stop him, according to MPD officers.
A detective reviewed the management company’s surveillance video and identified crimes from Aug. 1 to Aug. 19. After correctional deputies booked Cadierno early Thursday morning at the Turner Guilford Correctional Center, he appeared in court, and a judge set his bond at $62,500 and ordered him to stay away from the building.
Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Alberto Milian was set to preside over the case.
