Sweetwater Uber driver was using a car stolen in Hialeah when arrested in Miami Gardens: FHP

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — A 44-year-old man who worked as an Uber driver faced charges Thursday in Miami-Dade County for driving a stolen car, according to a Florida Highway Patrol trooper’s arrest report.

The FHP trooper reported ordering Jose Friol to stop on the Palmetto Expressway after a tag reader alert and arresting him after he complied at Northwest 27 Avenue and 215 Street, in Miami Gardens.

The white Chevrolet sports utility that Friol was driving had been reported stolen by the Hialeah Police Department, and the owners recovered it after the arrest on Wednesday, records show.

Miami-Dade correctional deputies booked Friol at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he remained on Thursday morning, county inmate records show.

Friol, who was born in Cuba and lives in Sweetwater, faced charges of first-degree grand theft, a felony, and trespassing an unoccupied structure, a misdemeanor, records show.

Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Ariel Rodriguez is set to preside over the case.
