According to Coral Springs police, Jessica Lloyd, 38, was found dead in a canal near her home Monday night.

Police said at 8:51 p.m., Jeffrey Ernest Evans, 43, called 911 and told dispatchers his wife was having a “mental break” and needed police assistance.

Six minutes later, another caller reported hearing a woman scream, “My husband is trying to kill me,” according to the report.

Police said upon their arrival, they found Lloyd’s body floating face down in a canal near the 9900 block of Northwest 15th Court. They said she was pronounced dead at 10:05 p.m.

Hours after that, Evans was placed under arrest on a charge of domestic violence with simple battery.

According to his arrest report, when Coral Springs police interviewed him, he told them he and his wife had marital problems and issues with infidelity.

Police said he claimed that Lloyd fell to the ground when he wrestled for his laptop back after she took it earlier in the day.

But then he said they made up, and when he came back into their bedroom that night, he couldn’t find his wife, the report stated.

According to the report, Evans told police Lloyd ran outside screaming and he tried to physically restrain her and force her back inside, but then realized he would look like the aggressor and stopped.

Police arrived shortly afterward and found Lloyd floating in the canal.

While Evans was arrested on the domestic violence charge, he has not been charged with any other crime.

Records show Evans did have a domestic violence history and was arrested on a battery charge in 2020 while he was a firefighter in Davie. Davie Fire Rescue confirmed to Local 10 that Evans was no longer employed with the fire department as of Feb. 28, 2025 and said they “have no further comment at this time.”

Lloyd’s sister told Local 10 News she was aware of that arrest, but said it didn’t involve Lloyd as Evans and Lloyd hadn’t yet met.

She said they met later on at a brewing company and got married last year.

Lloyd worked as a nurse in Delray Beach prior to her death, her sister said.

Evans has posted a $1,000 bond and once he gets a GPS ankle monitor on and surrenders his passport, he will be released from jail.

It’s unclear whether detectives believe Evans murdered his wife.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Coral Springs Police Department or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
