New body camera video shows officers rescuing children left alone in North Miami

Bodycam video shows arrest of aunt accused of letting kids wander while barefoot in North Miami Newly released body camera footage shows North Miami police officers finding two young children wandering barefoot near a roadway earlier this week.

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. — Newly released body camera footage shows North Miami police officers finding two young children wandering barefoot near a roadway earlier this week, an incident that has led to a child neglect charge against their aunt.

The video, obtained exclusively by Local 10 News on Friday, begins with officers arriving Monday afternoon to see the children, one with a bleeding toe, walking without supervision.

“How old is he? Probably 5?” one officer is heard saying before calling for fire rescue.

The children, described by an officer as nonverbal, appeared confused but remained calm as police tried to comfort them.

“You want to sit in the car? Let’s do it,” another officer can be heard saying while helping them stay safe until relatives were located.

Minutes later, police found the children’s aunt, 31-year-old Nirlouize Lizaire. Body camera footage shows the moment she was placed under arrest.

“Turn around, put your hands behind your back,” an officer tells her as she replied with, “Oh my God.”

In bond court this week, Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Mindy Glazer set Lizaire’s bond at $1, noting that she was also held on an immigration hold. Lizaire told the court her 14-year-old son was supposed to watch the children but fell asleep.

She was not listed as an inmate on Miami-Dade Corrections’ website as of Friday evening.

Police say the children were not seriously hurt and have since been reunited with relatives.
