Video shows man darting through traffic on I-95 in North Miami as he tries to flee troopers

Video shows state troopers chasing suspect

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. — Video released to Local 10 News on Friday shows a suspect darting between cars on Interstate 95 as he tried to flee Florida Highway Patrol troopers and a police officer late last month after authorities said he crashed into another car and tried to flee the scene.

The incident happened at around midnight on Aug. 27 in the northbound lanes of the highway near Northwest 135th Street in North Miami.

FHP Trooper Ashley Henning wrote that another driver flagged her down after James Preston McDowell, 32, of Hollywood, hit his vehicle and was trying to get away.

Video shows McDowell appearing to grab the trooper’s Taser and then running between vehicles in slowed-down traffic as FHP troopers and a municipal police officer, whose agency isn’t clear in the video, chase after him.

Multiple attempts to shock him with the Taser were ineffective.

Eventually, McDowell, who authorities said appeared to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol, was taken into custody out-of-frame.

He was arrested on four counts of resisting an officer without violence and one count each of aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer with a weapon causing great bodily harm, fleeing or eluding police after an accident with injuries and leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage.

Court records show he later posted a $9,500 bond. He’s scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 26.
