MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A woman was shot Tuesday night while driving with her child in her vehicle in northwest Miami-Dade, deputies confirmed.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the shooting occurred just after 10:30 p.m. in the area of Northwest 16th Avenue and 74th Street.
Deputies said the woman and her juvenile daughter were inside a vehicle when they heard the sound of gunshots before one of the vehicle windows shattered.
The woman, who had been shot in the upper extremities, then drove to the Northside District Station for help.
Deputies said Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel transported the woman to a local hospital in stable condition.
Paramedics treated the girl at the police station. Deputies said she sustained minor cuts from the shattered window.
“I feel like that’s disheartening to hear,” Jazmyn Jackson, who lives in the neighborhood, said. “There’s a lot of stuff that goes on in this area.”
Jackson told Local 10 News that the area is known to be dangerous.
“It’s really dangerous, especially at night,” she said.
A motive for the shooting remains unclear.
