MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A driver remains on the loose after leading Florida Highway Patrol troopers on a chase overnight on the Palmetto Expressway, authorities said.
According to FHP Lt. Alex Camacho, the Miami Police Department requested help from FHP regarding the driver of a gray Dodge Charger who fled from officers.
Camacho confirmed that troopers intercepted the car in the southbound lanes of the Palmetto Expressway near Bird Road, but the driver refused to stop, leading to a chase.
According to Camacho, during the chase, a trooper’s vehicle experienced a brake failure, causing the trooper to crash his vehicle into a parked Chevy SUV on Southwest 103rd Court and Marlin Road.
“The fleeing Dodge was left abandoned at a nearby apartment complex and the driver fled the scene on foot,” Camacho said in an email to Local 10 News. “The Dodge was recovered; the driver remains at large.”
No injuries were reported during the pursuit.
Anyone with information about the driver’s identity or whereabouts is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
