MIRAMAR, Fla. — Look at them, look at them now... NICU babies were dressed in their Dr. Seuss best for Memorial Hospital Miramar’s annual Read-a-thon.
For the sixth year in a row, the NICU team at the hospital, located at 1901 Southwest 172 Avenue, celebrated NICU Awareness Month and National Literacy Month on Thursday.
This year’s theme is “Dr. Seuss: Reading is Our THING!” and the NICU will be transformed into the whimsical world of Seuss. Babies will be dressed as the Cat in the Hat, Things 1 and 2, and even the Lorax.
“I developed pre-eclampsia, so it was an emergency C-section. It was very scary, but we lived it till the tail and she’s doing great. So, she’s growing day by day, stronger, she’s feisty, and we love her so much,” said Jina Jacobs, a mother.
Patients had their doors decorated like the covers of beloved Seuss books, and the staff also were dressed for the occasion.
According to a media release, last year, Memorial’s NICU ranked #18 out of 224 hospitals nationwide in the Babies with Books Read-a-thon.
