Miami's Club Space hosts pet adoption event

MIAMi — Club Space in downtown Miami is usually about filling the dance floor. On Saturday, it was about filling homes and hearts.

“I’ve been wanting one for Christmas. I’m on the fence about it. This is sort of a way to get me to get the feels for the puppy,” said Yesena Martinez.

The nightclub, at 34 NE 11th St., opened its doors during the day for an animal adoption event.

“It’s so exciting when I opened the door and there’s a line outside with people excited to be here, to see the animal, to adopt them,” said Amanda Lee of Club Space.

The event was a collaboration with Miami-Dade Animal Services, which has been dealing with an influx of animals in need of adoption.

“It has such an influx of animals in need to be adopted,” Lee said.

Ezekiel Gratereaux had his eyes on one of the dogs.

“It just looks cute. I want to buy it,” he said.

When asked what a dog would mean to his family, Gratereaux responded, “I would feed it, I would take it on walks, and I would give it a drink.”

For now, forget the strobe lights — because these eyes are shining brighter.

“I hope they all go home today with a family,” Martinez said.

There were eight dogs up for adoption Saturday.
