AVENTURA, Fla. — As family members continue to seek answers regarding the death of Troy Cannata, who was shot and killed by Aventura police on July 10, Cannata’s brother and father are questioning their arrests at the salon where it happened.
On Monday, Local 10 News reported Friday’s trespassing arrest of Travis Cannata, 36, of Delray Beach, at RH Beauty + Salon.
Local 10 News later learned that Cannata’s father, Michael Anthony Cannata, 61, of Seaford, New York, was also arrested for trespassing outside of the salon, located at 19017 Biscayne Blvd.
Police said that Travis Cannata was “filming (salon) employees and antagonizing them” and had been trespassed on July 5, five days before the shooting.
They said they then arrested Michael Cannata, a retired New York City police officer, after he “refused” an Aventura police sergeant’s order to leave the premises.
Travis Cannata said he’s never received a trespass warning.
“I never received anything like that,” he said.
Michael Cannata said, “I live in New York. I have no trespass warning. I’ve never been notified of any trespass warning, either verbally or with any kind of documentation whatsoever.”
The shooting of Troy Cannata remains under investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Authorities have released few details about the incident and what led up to it.
Family members said he had gotten into an argument with someone working in the salon.
“The only thing I said (was) ‘It’s messed up that you guys killed my brother.’ That’s the only thing I said,” Travis Cannata said. “Now they’re saying that I was ‘aggressively speaking.’”
Travis Cannata had a message for Aventura police.
“You’ve already ruined my life enough,” he said. “I don’t know why you’re trying to ruin my life more. I don’t understand. I don’t know why you guys are acting like mobsters and bullies. I mean, I’ve lost enough as it is.”
Local 10 News has contacted the Aventura Police Department seeking comment about the incident and had not heard back as of the publication of this article.
