Key Largo man says he tried to kill ‘parasite’ roommate with crossbow over trashed vodka: Cops

George Balboni (MCSO)

KEY LARGO, Fla. — A Key Largo man is facing an attempted murder charge after deputies said he tried to kill his roommate with a bow and arrow Tuesday morning.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the crime happened at around 6 a.m. in the 700 block of Largo Road.

Deputies said George Henry Balboni, 61, aimed his crossbow at his 69-year-old roommate’s head, but missed, grazing him in the ear. They said the victim then “took the crossbow from Balboni and hit him with it, knocking him to the ground.”

Authorities said Balboni admitted to trying to kill his roommate, whom he called a “parasite,” and said he had “no remorse.”

MCSO spokesperson Adam Linhardt said the two had feuded for years.

Linhardt said that Balboni told deputies that he “decided to kill” his roommate on Monday after the man “went through his trash on Monday and found vodka,” angering Balboni.

“Violence is never the answer to a roommate dispute,” Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay said in a news release on Tuesday afternoon. “It’s much easier to separate yourself from the situation, but this person did the total opposite and now faces very serious criminal charges.”

Balboni was taken to Mariners Hospital in Tavernier for a head injury and then arrested.
