NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — A North Miami Beach robbery incident has people in the area shaken up.
Locals told Local 10 News’ Isabella Martin that the suspect, identified as Miclaud Arisda, was no stranger to the area and was often seen causing trouble at a shopping plaza, so his arrest came as no surprise.
Investigators say the crime spree started Sunday night outside Jiffy’s Corner Food Store at 16475 NE 15th Ave.
According to police, the victim told officers he was looking for a place to charge his phone when a man demanded his bookbag and phone.
Surveillance video shows Arisda, 30, approaching the victim and snatching his backpack.
Not long after, police say Arisda targeted a young boy, pushing him off a scooter and taking it before turning up at a nearby 7-Eleven at 15100 W. Dixie Highway.
Detectives say Arisda grabbed $30 from a man’s hand, followed him inside and demanded his satchel.
“He told me he was scared himself, that he’s probably going to move out of this area because this has happened to him before,” 7-Eleven owner Gabe Diaz said of the victim.
Police said when the victim refused, Arisda threatened to shoot him and a struggle broke out inside the store, which was also caught on camera.
“The whole thing turns into a big fight inside the store, and then about ten minutes later the police come — but the man leaves,” said Diaz.
Arisda escaped on that scooter before police arrived, but less than 24 hours later, officers spotted him leaving a cellphone store and took him into custody.
“I think the community should be concerned, because you know businesses get tired, and they say it’s no longer profitable to do business here,” said Diaz.
Arisda is facing multiple felony charges, including armed robbery, false imprisonment, battery, and resisting without violence.
At last check, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
