FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A driver died on Wednesday morning after a shooting and a crash in Fort Lauderdale, police said.

Sgt. David Soika said police officers responded to the shooting at about 230 a.m. at the 1400 block of North Fort Lauderdale Beach Boulevard.

“There was a white male who may have been involved, walking in an unknown direction, holding a black T-shirt,” Soika said.

Police officers found a driver who had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and struck the seawall, according to Soika.

“Several other officers arrived on scene and located a subject fitting the description provided. The subject was detained,” Soika said.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue personnel took the driver to the hospital. Soika said the driver later died.
