Food shared by student sends 5 classmates to hospital in West Miami-Dade Five children were taken to a local hospital after a “medical call” was received from Pinecrest Glades Academy in west Miami-Dade, MDFR confirmed.

Pinecrest Glades Academy, located at 15250 SW Eighth St., is a K-12th charter school.

According to an email sent to parents from the school, a student brought a “food item” to campus and shared it with others.

“Some students who consumed it began experiencing adverse reactions, and emergency medical teams were immediately called to provide assistance,” the email read in part. “Those students are receiving the necessary medical care.”

According to the email, the incident is under investigation by law enforcement.

“Please rest assured that we are taking every necessary step to address this unfortunate situation and to ensure the continued safety of our students,” the email read. “We ask that you take a moment to remind your children of the seriousness of their actions. What may seem like a simple choice can carry very severe consequences, including potential criminal charges and school-related disciplinary measures.”

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said the students will not be interviewed until a later time because they were “intoxicated and receiving medical attention.”

Detectives said they will not have information on what was ingested until the involved parties can be interviewed. The agency referred inquiries about medical treatment to MDFR.
