While at home near Miami Gardens, Renel Sanon walked into his daughter’s bedroom, pulled her bed covers off, punched her in the chest, and used an electrical cord to hit her, according to deputies.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel responded to treat the victim, who refused to provide a statement when Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies found her in the backyard and took pictures of her injuries, according to the deputies’ arrest report.

Deputies with the new Mental Health Outreach and Victim Empowerment Squad and a Florida Department of Children and Families worker also responded to the house, according to the deputies’ report.

Deputies arrested Sanon, 63, at 10:55 a.m. on Sunday at his home, and correctional deputies booked him shortly after 12:40 p.m. at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, records show.

Sanon faced a charge of child abuse with no great bodily harm, records show. A bond court judge ordered him to stay away from his daughter and set his bond at $2,500.

Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Zachary James was set to preside over the case.

Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477 to remain anonymous.
