DAVIE, Fla. — A custodian who also served as head of facilities at Indian Ridge Middle School in Davie was arrested last week after authorities said a bag of cocaine was discovered inside the school.
Davie police identified the employee as 63-year-old Edward Berg, who was taken into custody Sept. 26 on a charge of cocaine possession.
According to an arrest report, the school’s assistant principal and a security guard found a small plastic bag containing a white powdery substance on the floor of the main hallway. A field test confirmed it was cocaine, weighing nearly one gram.
Investigators said surveillance video showed the bag falling from Berg’s pocket as he tried to put away his cellphone.
Broward County Public Schools confirmed the arrest and released this statement to Local 10 News:
“On Friday, September 26, 2025, a custodian at Indian Ridge Middle School was arrested on campus by Davie Police for drug possession. Following the arrest, the District was made aware of separate allegations involving the employee, unrelated to the drug charge. The employee has been placed on administrative reassignment away from students while all matters are investigated.”
Jail records show Berg was booked into the Broward County Main Jail, where he is no longer listed as an inmate.
