HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — A man who works for the City of Hollywood’s Building/Zoning Department was arrested Wednesday on multiple charges, Local 10 News has learned.
Online jail records show Roberto Meneses, 38, was booked into the Broward County Main Jail on charges of bribery by a public servant, unlawful compensation, obtaining property under $20,000 by fraud and grand theft.
A city spokesperson released a statement to Local 10 News Thursday, confirming that the Hollywood Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division began investigating allegations of bribery and extortion involving Meneses in May.
“The months-long investigation revealed Mr. Meneses, a Zoning Plans Reviewer & Inspector, utilized his official position to victimize numerous homeowners, contractors, and permit runners for personal monetary gain,” the statement read in part.
The spokesperson confirmed that Meneses surrendered to police Wednesday and was taken into custody.
As of Thursday afternoon, he remained jailed on a $7,000 bond.
