FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A verbal altercation early Thursday morning led to a shooting at a gas station in Fort Lauderdale that left one man injured, police confirmed.

According to Sgt. David Soika, the shooting was reported at about 4:30 a.m. at the 7-Eleven located along the 2900 block of East Sunrise Boulevard.

Soika said officers arrived at the scene and found a man who had been shot in the abdomen.

Officers immediately began rendering aid to the victim before he was transported to a local hospital by Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue in critical but stable condition.

According to Soika, investigators discovered that the victim had been involved in a verbal dispute at the gas station when the other person pulled out a gun and fired a round at the victim, striking him.

The shooter then fled the scene, possibly in a light-colored sedan, Soika said.

No other details about the shooting were immediately known.
