HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — Sean “Diddy” Combs’ 50-month prison sentence sparked passionate debate across South Florida on Friday, especially as commuters tuned in to afternoon radio shows.
At Hot 105, callers lit up the lines with strong opinions.
One caller said, “I think he’s guilty on all counts and he should’ve gotten more.” When pressed on how much more, the caller said, “About 15 years.”
Others were more sympathetic.
“So you feel like regardless, four years is still too much?” Longtime Hot 105 radio host Alex “Big Lip” Chisholm asked another caller. The response: “I think so for him.”
Chisholm said he was surprised by some reactions.
“I wish he wouldn’t have got no time,” he said.
During one exchange, he asked a caller, “You said so you say you feel bad for Diddy? Yeah. All right. OK. Just curious.
“I met him twice,” the caller responded.
Oh, so because you met him, it’s OK for him to kick a--?” asked Chisholm.
“No, not,” the caller replied.
Beyond the radio chatter, court documents show Combs expressed interest in continuing his philanthropy, including a speaking engagement at a private K-12 school in Miami Gardens.
“It’s an opportunity to hear about what can happen and how to learn from that,” said Thea, a school leader who hoped students could benefit from hearing Combs’s story directly.
With Combs now serving time, that in-person appearance won’t happen. The school says it will explore other ways for students to hear his message.
