MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A 31-year-old man was arrested Tuesday following a fatal stabbing that occurred at a park in northwest Miami-Dade, authorities confirmed.
According to an arrest report obtained Wednesday morning by Local 10 News, Christopher Michael Prats, of Miami, was arrested Tuesday morning on a second-degree murder charge.
The arrest report from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office states that deputies were called to Arthur Woodard Park, located at 1220 NW 99th St., just after 9:15 a.m. Tuesday in reference to two men fighting.
When deputies arrived, they found the victim, identified as Jean Wilga Stinfile, 33, lying on the ground in the park, suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel also responded to the park and pronounced the victim dead at 9:55 a.m.
According to the arrest report, after the stabbing, Prats led detectives to a nearby trash bin where he had thrown away the knife.
The knife was blood-stained and was impounded as evidence, authorities said.
Deputies said Prats was then taken to the MDSO Homicide Bureau where he provided detectives with a detailed statement.
According to the report, Prats said he is currently homeless and living in the park.
He said that earlier in the day, he was sitting on a bench under a pavilion when the victim approached him from behind, saying obscenities, which he believed were directed at him, the report stated.
According to the report, Prats said Stinfile gave him “bad vibes” and once Stinfile got closer to him, he thought Stinfile was going to hit him, so he grabbed a knife from his duffel bag and stabbed the victim in the chest.
Deputies said Prats claimed that the victim tried to approach him again, at which point they began to “tussle” and he continued to stab the victim.
According to the report, Prats admitted to stabbing the victim “until he felt the victim become less heavy.”
Deputies noted in the arrest report that Prats admitted that he never saw Stinfile with a weapon, but felt he was being targeted by the victim, who he thinks was sent by either the Bloods or Crips gangs.
According to the report, Prats had minor scrapes to his knuckles, while the victim had deep cuts to his face, chest, both arms, neck and back.
As of Wednesday morning, Prats was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Online jail records listed his bond as “to be set.”
