Sunrise reopens renovated amphitheater with community celebration

SUNRISE, Fla. — The city of Sunrise celebrated the grand reopening of its newly renovated amphitheater Oct. 4, unveiling a modernized venue aimed at becoming a year-round destination for live entertainment and community events.

The amphitheater, located next to City Hall, now features seating for 2,500 people, upgraded sound and lighting systems, renovated green rooms for performers, improved accessibility and sustainable energy features. City officials said the upgrades were part of a broader plan to position Sunrise as a cultural hub in South Florida.

“This is more than just a facelift — it’s a transformation,” Sunrise Mayor Mike Ryan said during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. “This amphitheater will bring people together and serve as a gathering place that reflects the energy and diversity of Sunrise.”

The free reopening event began at 6 p.m. and included a live performance by the Gypsy Lane Band, a selection of food trucks, giveaways, a roaming photo booth and a city-themed drone show.

Guests filled the large lawn surrounding the stage, many bringing picnic blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy the outdoor festivities. Drone footage shared by the city earlier in the day showed the venue before crowds arrived, highlighting its open layout and updated design.

City officials said the amphitheater will now host concerts, festivals, movie nights and civic celebrations throughout the year.

“We’re investing in the future of our community,” Ryan said. “Spaces like this help build connection, culture and pride in where we live.”
