FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Authorities are investigating the death of an infant at a home in Fort Lauderdale, police said Friday.
Officers responded to a medical call around 11:45 a.m. at a residence near the 1400 block of Northwest 15th Terrace, according to Fort Lauderdale police.
Aerial footage from Sky 10 showed a heavy police presence at the scene. Investigators said it is still unclear whether foul play was involved in the child’s death.
Broward County Animal Care confirmed it responded to the same location and took custody of a dog from the home.
A neighbor, who asked not to be identified, said he was shocked by the large law enforcement response.
“It was crazy. I came outside to throw the trash out, and I seen about 30 police cars. Caught me off guard,” he said.
The neighbor also claimed that the infant may have been born that same morning, though police have not confirmed any details regarding the child’s age, name, or cause of death.
He added that two people live in the home, but are rarely seen outside.
“Their windows [are] closed, they don’t ever come outside. Probably see them once a month for 10 seconds, coming home or leaving,” he said.
As of Friday evening, Fort Lauderdale police had not released further information. The investigation remains ongoing.
