MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A 15-year-old girl remains in critical condition after being struck by a white truck near Southwest 127th Avenue and 204th Street in southwest Miami-Dade Friday afternoon.
Will Brown, a retired Miami police officer, was driving by when he saw the teen lying unresponsive in the road.
“I’ve been retired for two years, but my training came back like I left the job yesterday,” Brown said.
Surveillance video, blurred due to its graphic nature, shows the girl walking moments before she’s struck off-camera. Her body is seen sliding across the road, and her backpack appears to hit the truck’s windshield.
Brown rushed to her side, checked her vitals, and tried to keep her calm.
“She was slowly waking up. I told her, ‘Sweetheart, don’t move,’” he said. “She started crying. She didn’t know where she was.”
The teen was airlifted to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in critical condition. The driver of the truck stayed at the scene.
Investigators are working to determine if the teen had just been dropped off by a nearby school bus. No charges have been filed at this time.
