MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Five men who were already behind bars in Miami-Dade County are now facing additional charges after they allegedly were involved in the attack and stabbing of another inmate inside a jail cell, authorities said.
According to an arrest report for one of the suspects, the incident occurred last Wednesday at the Miami-Dade Pre-Trial Detention Center, located at 1321 NW 13th St.
The report states that surveillance officers alerted a corporal and sergeant about what occurred and all inmates were removed from the cell where the attack took place.
A “shakedown” was conducted but corrections officers were unable to find “any evidence of a scene or objects possibly used in the altercation,” the report stated.
According to the report, the victim was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital to be treated for his injures.
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies later took a sworn statement from the victim, who claimed that he had smoked an unknown controlled substance to get high and then fell asleep on his bottom bunk bed.
He said several inmates, who are Blood gang members, then attacked him, causing him to “black out,” the report stated.
According to the report, the victim said he did not know how long the attack occurred for, but once he regained consciousness, he used his shirt to remove the tissue that had been covering a surveillance camera.
Detectives reviewed footage from the detention center and said they discovered that the victim had been involved in a verbal dispute earlier that day with one of the suspects, Ralph Benjamin, 45, who is currently jailed without bond on a first-degree murder charge in connection with a separate case.
Detectives said less than two hours later, Kareem Carter, 30, is seen on video covering the front camera near the victim’s cell, as Damien Tyler Rametta, 22, covered the rear camera and a third inmate, identified only by the last name Hernandez, covered the middle camera.

According to the report, the rear camera got uncovered at one point and Henry Miles, 22, Daniel Rocha, 24, and Benjamin are seen attacking the victim.
The victim required stitches for his injuries, authorities said.
Online jail records show the suspects face various charges, including battery by a detainee on another detainee, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and accessory after the fact.
