MIAMI — Deputies in Miami-Dade County arrested a man who they say punched two people, one of which an elderly man, before taking off earlier this month.
The incident occurred on Oct. 4 behind a Goodwill store located at 982 SW Eighth Street in Miami.
According to deputies, a woman was behind the store feeding stray cats and ducks when Adelson Ortega, 27, pulled up in his car and began dumping trash on the ground.
She then told Ortega he should use a nearby dumpster, and that’s when deputies said he began to get upset and insult her.
The woman then called her 75-year-old father because she was in fear of Ortega, per an arrest report.
As the woman’s father was speaking to Ortega about allowing her to continue feeding the animals, she photographed Ortega’s license plate, which deputies said led to him insulting the woman again.
When her father began to approach Ortega’s car, he intentionally swung open his door and struck the elderly man, the report stated.
Deputies said Ortega then got out of his car and punched the man in the head, causing him to fall and hit the back of his head, and then punched the woman in the back when she yelled at him about hitting her father before getting back in his car and taking off.
Ortega’s arrest report states the woman’s father suffered a cut to the back of his head, which caused the woman to suffered an injury at the hospital that was redacted from the report.
Deputies said Ortega was subsequently identified in a photo lineup and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Wednesday, where he remained as of Thursday morning.
His charges are listed as aggravated battery, aggravated battery on a person 65 or order and a probation violation, and bond is showing as “to be set” on each charge.
