Local violin duo set to make big stage debut in Broward County

Sons of Mystro set for show on big stage after coming up as South Florida music students

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A violin duo called Sons of Mystro are taking the stage at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

The group mixes classic music with reggae and hip-hop.

“Sons of Mystro are from Broward County Public Schools,” said Broward Center for the Performing Arts Director of Education Jacob Aronin. “They went to Batoon Performing Arts and Parkway Middle School of the Arts and Menn Dillard High School of the Arts”

They recently visited their high school alma mater, helping performing arts students understand the journey that got them to the big stage.

“We are engaging in a workshop where we get to showcase what we do as a group, Sons of Mystro,” said Sons of Mystro member Umoja McNeish. “It is extremely important because it allows kids in the arts to get a glimpse about what the future kinda looks like.”

Added Sons of Mystro member Malcom McNeish: “We came here to the high school we started playing violin. Actually in third grade, but we enhanced or abilities to play the violin one we got to Dillard. It became a thing where we just got that confidence.”

And now that confidence will be on a professional stage.

The Broward Center for the Performing Arts started a program called Amplify Arts where they spotlight, support and mentor local talent like the Sons of Mystro.

The fierce duo’s big debut on the big stage will be Nov. 1.
