Body camera video shows deadly confrontation after Miami woman was shot by ex-husband

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Newly released body camera footage from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office shows the tense moments leading up to a deadly shootout between deputies and a man accused of shooting his ex-wife in the chest.

Deputies say Javier Albriza Jara shot Yudaisy Salgueiro on Aug. 26 before turning his gun on law enforcement.

The video shows officers confronting Jara outside an apartment complex, repeatedly ordering him to drop his weapon. Instead, Jara can be seen raising a gun toward deputies before they open fire.

In the footage, Salgueiro watches from her living room in disbelief as the confrontation unfolds.

“It’s hard to see,” she said, reacting to the moment Jara is seen lunging headfirst through a window, gun in hand.

Neighbors also recorded cellphone video capturing parts of the standoff. First responders can be seen rushing to help Salgueiro, who was carried out on a stretcher and taken to a nearby hospital.

Salgueiro survived the shooting and spent six days recovering from her injuries. She told reporters she and Jara were married for about a decade but had separated within the past year. They had not spoken for months.

“I never thought he could do something like this,” she said.
