MIAMI — A man who tried to lure a 10-year-old girl to his workplace to sexually abuse her was instead met by FBI agents on Friday, according to a federal criminal complaint.
Investigators said Arjuna Davila Sequeira, 27, engaged in sexually explicit messages with the girl ― and later a federal agent posing as her ― on Snapchat.
According to the complaint, the Seminole Police Department turned over the case to the FBI on Oct. 27.
The girl’s father contacted tribal police after finding the messages on her cellphone and “briefly communicated” with Davila as if he were his daughter. SPD detectives tried to arrange a meetup to no avail before federal authorities got involved, investigators said.
The complaint lists extremely graphic messages and images Davila is accused of sending to a federal agent posing as the young girl.
At one point, after the agent told Davila, “I(’m) really 10 (years old),” he continued to engage in explicit messages with who he thought was the girl, telling her, “I want more from youu,” asking for nude images, the court documents state.
Authorities said on Nov. 2, Davila and the undercover agent “discussed meeting at his place of work,” an Extra Space Storage facility at 212 NE 26th St. in Miami’s Edgewater neighborhood, for a sexual meetup.
He also “discussed bringing a THC vape,” the complaint states, promising, “You’ll get high” and again asked the agent posing as the girl for explicit photos. Authorities said the agent sent a corrupted file instead.
The complaint states that Davila believed he had arranged a meetup with the girl in which her cousin would drive her to the storage facility on Friday and discussed in detail plans to sexually assault her.
According to the complaint, FBI Miami teams, including a SWAT unit, staged near the facility and Davila opened its gate to allow the undercover vehicle ― that he believed had the 10-year-old inside ― into the business.
Agents said they arrested Davila at 1:35 p.m. after he exited the facility.
“Law enforcement located two cellular devices, one condom and one ‘MUHA MEDS’ vape pen” on Davila, the complaint states.
According to the complaint, Davila admitted “he has a problem” and “wants to stop,” explaining that he “seems to add all minors on Snapchat.”
Davila “explained that the individual he was meeting with advised him that they were 10 years old, but he believed he was meeting a 16-year-old who was turning 17,” the complaint states.
Federal court records don’t show any scheduled appearances for Davila.
According to Federal Bureau of Prisons records, he was being held in the Federal Detention Center in downtown Miami as of Monday afternoon.
