MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A crane mechanical issue shut down a portion of the Dolphin Expressway Friday morning.

According to the Florida Department of Transportation, all eastbound lanes on the highway are closed at Northwest 17th Avenue and are expected to remain closed until about noon.

Construction has been ongoing on the highway and while there have been standard overnight closures, all lanes typically reopen by 5:30 a.m.

One westbound left lane will also be closed from Interstate 95 to west of Northwest 12th Avenue.

“The closures will remain in place as crews work to remove a precast cap segment from the roadway safely,” FDOT officials said in a news release. “Motorists are urged to use alternate routes and allow extra time for travel during this period.”

The detour below will be implemented to guide drivers around the closure:

  • Exit at NW 17 Avenue, then continue south across NW 7 Street
  • Turn left at SW 1 Street and continue east
  • Turn right at South Miami Avenue
  • Turn right to access the ramp to I-95 north or south
  • Drivers going to Biscayne Boulevard and the MacArthur Causeway can continue east on SW 1 Street and turn left on Biscayne Boulevard to connect with the MacArthur Causeway entrance ramp at NE 11 Terrace

Drivers on Northwest 12th Avenue wanting to access eastbound S.R. 836, I-95, Biscayne Boulevard, and the MacArthur Causeway can continue south on 12th Avenue, turn left at Southwest First Street, and follow the detours above.
