MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A man who detectives reported confessed to a woman’s murder appeared in court on Friday morning in Miami-Dade County.
Deputies found Kanisa Love lying on the ground under the shadow of the elevated Metrorail ramp on Nov. 15 at 8099 South Dixie Highway, records show.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel pronounced Love dead, and a medical examiner reported it was a homicide and the cause of death was “blunt force trauma to the head,” records show.
Love had just marked her 32nd birthday on Nov. 7. During their investigation, M-DCSO detectives reported finding surveillance video showing “an altercation” and a man pushing Love before she fell.
Detectives identified Jorge Gomez as a suspect and detained him for questioning on Thursday at the M-DSO homicide bureau, where he confessed, according to the arrest report on the case.
Gomez was on probation until Feb. 19, 2026, after he was convicted and arrested for grand theft in 2023 in Miami, court records show.
Gomez has an arrest record in Miami-Dade that goes back to 2014. The cases include domestic violence, burglary, cocaine, and marijuana.
Deputies arrested Gomez shortly after 11:10 a.m. on Thursday, and correctional deputies booked him at about 3:30 p.m. at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, records show.
Gomez faced a second-degree murder charge.
