MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Body camera video obtained by Local 10 News on Monday shows dramatic footage of a deputy-involved shooting that occurred back in September in southwest Miami-Dade.
Authorities said shooting took place on Sept.16 when residents called 911 to report a man waving a gun in the neighborhood.
Deputies responded to the scene near Southwest 216th Street and Southwest 122nd Avenue, where they encountered 44-year-old Jose Panetta, who was walking around and allegedly pointing the gun at people.
In the bodycam footage, the deputy can be heard ordering Panetta to drop the weapon. Moments later, gunfire erupts as Panetta and the deputy exchanged shots.
Authorites said Panetta was struck and later died from his injuries at the hospital.
The deputy was unharmed, though one of the police cruisers at the scene was found with a bullet hole.
Deputies later confirmed that Panetta had a lengthy criminal history and had been involved in similar incidents in the past.
