CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. — Fighting back tears, Dominique Smith is opening up about her husband’s health struggles.
Since 2022, 38-year-old father of five Henry Smith has been living with kidney failure.
“It’s really saddens me because I’m used to him being the person that’s actually leading and helping and healing outside of the church and the ministry,” said Dominique Smith.
Henry Smith is a pillar of strength for not only his family, but the community, and a youth coach for the Chargers.
“He’s in love with the youth,” said Smith. “He’s a big person in the community. He loves to help.”
But now Henry Smith is on the defense in dire need of help, a fight his family was battling alone until now.
“Nobody actually knew on the field that when coach Smith was not there for months at a time, I’d say he’s on a business trip or, you know, he’s helping family members out, but deep down inside he was actually in the hospital on life support for months at a time,” said Dominique Smith.
A challenge his family was been navigating along with financial hardships.
“I feel like I need an army of people to help me, to support me, whether it’s a prayer, whether it’s a he’s is going to get better, whether hey, can I take the kids to the park for you,” she said.
Dominique Smith is taking it in stride and standing strong for her kids and husband while praying a match comes.
“I’ve got to trust the world for the outcome that I don’t know,” she said. “Being a donor doesn’t just save one life it actually saves seven because we’re a big family.”
Dominique Smith says right now she’s holding on to her faith, spiritually and praying that someone can save her husband’s life.
In the meantime, she created a GoFundMe that can be found by clicking here.
Henry Smith is B Positive, and anyone can reach out to Memorial Healthcare and say they want to be a donor to see if they are a match.
