MIAMI — Santa Claus made quite an entrance during a gift giveaway event in Miami on Wednesday.
Santa ditched his sleigh and dropped in by helicopter, landing in front of hundreds of excited kids at the Hank Kline Boys & Girls Club in Miami.
The event was the annual holiday party and toy drive hosted by former MLB superstar Alex Rodriguez.
“This is the 18th year of the Boys and Girls Club, Alex Rodriguez toy drive,” he said. “We have over 600 kids. They’re growing and learning and getting fed and having a great day.”
For nearly 20 years, Rodriguez has returned to give back to the place that helped shape him as a young athlete.
While talking to old friends, and some new ones, memories came back to him.
“When I was 12 years old, we collected food stamps,” said Rodriguez. “This place provided a place of safety, love, and understanding of what was important in life.”
At Wednesday’s celebration, children unwrapped toys, shared magical moments with Santa and walked away with something even bigger: gratitude.
“Anything is possible,” said Rodriguez. “You can have limited resources but your dreams don’t have to be limited.”
