Hands 4 Jamaica leads local relief effort after Hurricane Melissa

MIAMI — Hurricane Melissa left parts of Jamaica in ruins, devastating communities across the island nation.

A local community in Miami has stepped up to help.

Hands 4 Jamaica, a grassroots organization, is quickly pooling resources in response to the widespread destruction.

The group is calling on some of the culture’s most prominent figures, including media multi-hyphenate Mona Scott-Young.

It has also gained support from one of hip-hop’s most influential artists, Busta Rhymes, who has deep personal ties to the island.

On its first trip to Jamaica, the organization plans to deliver tons of aid to residents affected by the storm.

While Hurricane Melissa has passed, the journey to rebuild will be long. Still, the spirit of Jamaica remains resilient.
