Deanna Nadine Bernard, 25, now faces a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

According to an arrest report, police initially responded to Bernard’s home shortly before 11 a.m. that day after receiving a call that a man was trying to enter Bernard’s home and was making threats to kill.

Police said the man fled the scene before officers arrived.

Bernard and a witness at the scene told officers that the man tried to enter the home, but was unable to enter the curtilage of the residence, which was secured by a locked gate, the report stated.

According to the report, surveillance video shows the man walking back and forth while trying to enter the gate, before leaving the area.

The report stated that the witness told officers that the man said, “I’m coming inside to kill you,” as he was trying to enter the home.

According to the report, about 30 minutes after a detective left the area, Bernard called the detective and said that the man was back at the home before the call disconnected.

The detective called back and Bernard said she had just shot the man in the leg, authorities said.

Police said officers arrived back at the scene and applied tourniquets to the man before he was transported by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital as a trauma alert.

According to the report, surveillance video shows the man arriving back at Bernard’s home in a Toyota Camry and parking in the driveway.

Police said at one point, the man entered Bernard’s backyard before surveillance video shows a witness arriving at the scene in a taxi.

The man then walked over to the taxi and attempted to kick it, authorities said.

According to the report, Bernard then exited her home and initiated a verbal argument with the man.

Police said rather than remaining inside her home, Bernard continued to walk toward the man.

The man is then seen walking around the taxi before Bernard gets closer to him and fires three shots at him, the report stated.

Police said the man eventually falls to the ground and Bernard gets even closer before firing an additional two shots at him as he remained on the ground with his hands up.

Based on the video, Bernard did not appear to be in fear for her safety at the time of the shooting, authorities said.

As of Monday afternoon, Bernard remained held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Online jail records listed her bond as “to be set.”

The man’s identity and relation to Bernard have not yet been released.
