PLANTATION, Fla. — A man was arrested early Wednesday morning after he barricaded himself inside a hotel room in Plantation, authorities said.
Online jail records show Raul Decasanova, 47, is facing multiple charges, including resisting an officer without violence, burglary of an occupied dwelling, criminal mischief and firing a missile into a dwelling/vehicle.
A Local 10 News crew was outside a Holiday Inn Express & Suites, located at 1701 N. University Dr., late Tuesday night as Plantation police officers and SWAT team members from the Broward Sheriff’s Office were working to get Decasanova to come out of the hotel.
“I came here at about 5, ran upstairs, came out the elevator on floor 3 and an officer was like right there – long-barreled gun,” hotel guest Jared Higgs said.
Cellphone video shows the door of the hotel room Decasanova was staying in was completely gone after the incident.
“The door opposite has a lot of shrapnel damage to it,” Higgs said.
“A neighbor stopped me and was like, ‘Hey, be careful. There’s a sniper out there.’ So I kind of was like, ‘Oh, Ok. Thank you.’ And I kind of laughed it off, but as I kept walking -- not even maybe 5 seconds later -- I happened to see a cop car, lights off, two cops kneeling, and kind of ready to go with the sniper,” Adrian Richter, who lives nearby, said.
Police said Decasanova was wanted on multiple active felony warrants, including for tampering with his GPS ankle monitor.
As of Wednesday morning, he remained at the Broward County Main Jail. He is expected to appear before a judge in bond court sometime Wednesday.
No other details were immediately released.
