MIAMI — A woman was arrested after a violent confrontation with a gym employee that was captured on cellphone video at a Planet Fitness in Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood, police said.
The woman’s anger is evident from the moment a witness begins recording.
The video shows the female patron appearing enraged as she moves toward the front counter inside the gym, seemingly attempting to provoke a confrontation with an employee.
Seconds later, the woman jumps over the counter into an employee-only area and charges toward a male worker.
Video shows punch after punch being thrown at the employee, who does not appear to fight back as other workers attempt to intervene.
At one point, an object is thrown.
The incident happened on Friday at the Planet Fitness located on Southwest 8th Street and 8th Avenue. By the time City of Miami police arrived, the woman was already outside and attempting to drive away.
Police identified the woman as 35-year-old Kiara Bryant, who was arrested on charges of battery and disorderly conduct. Investigators say Bryant had been causing a disturbance inside a locker room and became irate after a male employee told her to lower her voice or police would be called.
According to the arrest report, Bryant got into the employee’s face and “the victim pushed her back and away from him with both hands in self-defense twice and she was being constantly aggressive towards him while balling her fists.”
Planet Fitness released a statement addressing the incident, saying in part:
“The safety of our employees and members is our top priority and we have zero tolerance for violence of any kind… The franchise group worked closely with the local police and have cancelled the member in question.”
