HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — Hollywood police recently used a specialized vehicle-stopping device known as a “Grappler” to make an arrest in an attempted homicide investigation, authorities said.
Police released video showing the incident, which occurred Dec. 6, when officers located a vehicle wanted in connection with a possible attempted homicide out of Miami-Dade County.
Officers said they tracked the car and deployed the Grappler, successfully bringing the vehicle to a controlled stop before placing a male suspect in handcuffs.
The Grappler is a law-enforcement tool designed to end vehicle pursuits by wrapping a net around a car’s tires, gradually slowing it until it can no longer move.
The device allows officers to stop fleeing vehicles while reducing the risk of serious crashes, according to police.
Local 10 News previously explained how the Grappler works after Hollywood police used it in 2023 to stop a yellow Camaro that investigators said had been carjacked by teenagers.
In that case, officers used the device to end a pursuit and safely take the suspects into custody.
Police did not immediately release additional details about the suspect or the attempted homicide case connected to the December incident.
Local 10 News has requested the suspect’s arrest report from the Hollywood Police Department.
