Miami cops seek driver in connection with hit-and-run crash that left victim hospitalized

Police seek man suspected of hit-and-run that left victim hospitalized in Miami Traffic Homicide detectives with the Miami Police Department are investigating a hit-and-run crash that they said occurred early Wednesday morning.

MIAMI — Traffic Homicide detectives with the Miami Police Department are investigating a hit-and-run crash that they said occurred early Wednesday morning.

It happened around 2:50 a.m. at the intersection of Northwest 27th Avenue and Northwest 36th Street, near Miami’s Allapattah neighborhood.

Upon arrival, police said they found a man lying on the ground with visible injuries. Miami Fire Rescue transported him to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where he remains in critical condition.

Investigators said the vehicle — believed to be a Toyota or Chevrolet SUV — was traveling westbound in the right lane of Northwest 36th Street as it approached Northwest 27th Avenue.

They said the pedestrian was crossing Northwest 36th Street from south to north when he was struck.

After the collision, the driver stopped, reversed and parked the vehicle. Detectives said the driver got out and attempted to render aid to the pedestrian for about three minutes before fleeing the scene.

The victim’s age and identity are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

MPD’s Traffic Homicide Unit continues to investigate and is working to identify the vehicle and driver. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information is urged to contact police or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
